Recycling - Circular Materials

An enhanced recycling program is coming to the Town of Wembley in October 2026

Starting October 1, 2026, Wembley's recycling program will be managed by Circular Materials, as part of Alberta’s shift to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). EPR shifts the financial and operational responsibility of recycling programs to producers – those that produce and supply packaging and paper materials to residents. This includes the familiar brands and retailers Albertans interact with every day. This new approach to recycling means municipalities and taxpayers will no longer pay for recycling services as this cost will now be paid by producers.

In addition to continuing your current curbside recycling services, you’ll be able to recycle even more materials in your curbside recycling program starting in October.

You can expect a more convenient and consistent program built to enhance recycling programs and ensure that recyclable materials are looped into the circular economy to be used again and again.
